Pies, they’ve been around in one form or another for thousands of years, with links back to the ancient Egyptians. There are references to “pyes” in the English language going back to the 14th century and according to recent reports, crumbly, flaky pastry delights have never been more popular.
It seems the chilly weather we’ve been enjoying is partly behind the increase in sales. The UK had its coldest Easter Day on record this year and one supermarket recorded a 246 per cent increase in pie sales in the week running up to the Easter bank holiday weekend.
What’s more, the trend shows no sign of slowing down. The British Pie Awards took place last month in Melton Mowbray and there’s now even a British Pie Week. Our chefs are also doing their bit to raise the profile of the humble pie by running weekly Pie Shops at all of our country and coastal hotels, and coastal villages. Guests enjoying UK Summer Breaks at Warner Leisure Hotels will be able to tuck into freshly made creations from the Pie Shop on certain nights of the week when there’s always a great selection on offer, including a fish option and something for vegetarians. Turkey and ham, vegetable and fish pie are just some of the favourites that regularly find their way onto the menu.
If the thought of a homemade pie is proving seriously tempting, but you’d rather just relax in your room than come down to dinner, there’s no problem whatsoever. Make just one phone call and our chefs will be more than happy to plate up downstairs and organise for your food to be brought up to your room.
From goats’ cheese and butternut squash to the more traditional steak and ale, there are plenty of options when it comes to mouth-watering fillings. What would you most like to see on the menu when you next pay a visit to a Warner property? Let us know using the comments section below.
